Indian Knowledge System

The Department of Science and Humanities in association with the Indian Knowledge System, organized, on 28 April 2026, a seminar titled “Application of Vedic Mathematics in Engineering Calculations and Calculus” for first-year students. The session was held at Venue A324 and was conducted by Ms. S. Chitra, Assistant Professor in Mathematics.

One Day Seminar on the application of Mathematical Modelling in Engineering Field

The Department of Science and Humanities organized a one-day seminar on “Applications of Mathematical Modelling in the Engineering Field” on 11th April 2026 in the EEE Seminar Hall. Faculty members from the Mathematics division and first-year students actively participated in the seminar.

One Day Skill Development Workshop

The One Day Skill Development Workshop is organized to enhance students’ communication abilities by integrating emotional intelligence with language learning. The program focuses on developing vocabulary, fluency, and confidence through storytelling-based activities and interactive sessions.This workshop is specially designed to support first-year students in their transition to higher education, particularly those from Tamil medium and core academic backgrounds. It aims to strengthen their ability to express ideas effectively, participate actively in classroom interactions, and build self-confidence in communication.Through engaging storytelling techniques, practical exercises, and guided learning, students will improve their language proficiency while also developing emotional awareness and interpersonal skills. The workshop provides a supportive platform for learners to overcome language barriers, enhance their speaking skills, and adapt successfully to academic and professional environments.

Domain Specific Paper Presentation Competition

The IGNITE Association organized Domain Specific Paper Presentation Competition.As a continuation of the Reverse Engineering Paper Presentation Competition. In the earlier competition, around 200 students were selected at the institutional level, while the remaining 80% of students participated at the department level. Only the department-level participants were eligible to take part in this Domain Specific Paper Presentation event.

Reverse Engineering Paper Presentation Competition

The IGNITE Association organized a Reverse Engineering Paper Presentation Competition, exclusively for first-year students, to enhance their analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and technical presentation skills. The event was conducted from 03.03.2026 to 05.03.2026. The program aimed to provide a platform for students to explore existing systems or technologies, analyze their working principles, and present their findings innovatively.

The IGNITE Association organised a Domain Specific Paper Presentation Competition as a continuation of the Reverse Engineering Paper Presentation Competition. In the earlier competition, around 200 students were selected at the institutional level, while the remaining 80% of students participated at the department level. Only the department-level participants were eligible to take part in this Domain Specific Paper Presentation event.

National Science Day 2026

The Science Exhibition and Project Competition is organized to encourage students to explore scientific ideas, develop innovative projects, and apply their knowledge to solve real-world problems. The program provides a platform for students to showcase their creativity, research skills, and scientific thinking through models, experiments, and project presentations.

National Mathematics Day Quiz on 16.02.2026

The Department organized a National Mathematics Day Quiz on 16.02.2026 at the Mechanical Seminar Hall to encourage students to enhance their mathematical knowledge and analytical thinking skills. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 40 students from various institutions in and around Pollachi. The quiz aimed to promote interest in mathematics and highlight its importance in engineering and real-world problem solving. The program commenced with a brief introduction about National Mathematics Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and celebrates his remarkable contributions to the field of mathematics. The quiz competition consisted of multiple rounds covering topics such as basic mathematics, logical reasoning, numerical aptitude and general mathematical awareness. The participants actively engaged in the competition, demonstrating their knowledge and problem-solving abilities. The event was conducted in an interactive and competitive atmosphere, encouraging teamwork, quick thinking, and analytical skills among the participants. The winners were appreciated for their outstanding performance, and all participants were congratulated for their enthusiastic involvement. The National Mathematics Day Quiz was successfully organized and proved to be an enriching experience for the students, fostering a deeper appreciation for mathematics and its applications.

Poster Competition for Aspiring Women Innovators

The IGNITE Association organized a "Poster Competition for Aspiring Women Innovators" on February 13, 2026, to encourage female students to showcase their creativity and innovative ideas. The event featured three distinct streams: IT (Women in Computing and Digital Innovation), CORE (Women Leaders in Core Sciences and Engineering), and CIRCUIT (Women Powering Smart Technologies).

Guest Lecture on February 11, 2026

The IGNITE Association hosted a Tinkercad Guest Lecture led by experienced resource person Mr.R.Muthubharathi AP(SS)/EEE for Circuit Stream students. The session introduced 3D design, circuit simulation, and basic Arduino programming, focusing on practical skills through virtual prototyping on the Autodesk platform

Prompt Engineering Skills for Effective Academic Use of AI

The IGNITE Association organized a Guest lecture on "Prompt Engineering Skills for Effective Academic Use of AI" on February 4, 2026, as part of its academic development initiatives. Led by Dr. U. Barakkath Nisha, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the interactive session provided students with practical knowledge on using AI as a supportive learning tool.

27.01.2026 - workshop on Hands on session in DFT for Materials Simulations Using VASP

The workshop on “Hands-on Session in Density Functional Theory (DFT) for Materials Simulations Using VASP” provided a basic introduction to the VASP software and its application in calculating various properties of periodic systems. The workshop was conducted on 27 January 2026 at 10:00 AM in the SH Conference Hall. The session was handled by Dr. G. Saranya, Assistant Professor of Physics (Visiting Faculty), who served as the resource person and offered valuable insights into practical materials simulation techniques.

17.11.2025 - Workshop on Insights of Software in Civil Engineering

The Workshop on Insights of Software in Civil Engineering was held on 17-11-2025, organized by the Department of Science and Humanities at NPTC Hall No. 1 for 56 registered first-year Civil Engineering students. This one-day hands-on training program aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how digital technologies are transforming civil engineering by enhancing accuracy, efficiency, and visualization in design, analysis, surveying, and project planning. The session bridged theoretical concepts with practical applications, helping students understand how software tools support real-world engineering decisions. Overall, the workshop motivated students to embrace technology as an essential component of their civil engineering education and future professional careers.

13.11.2025 & 15.11.2025 - Workshop on Build Your IOT Clock

The Workshop on Build Your IoT Clock was conducted on 13-11-2025 and 15-11-2025, organized by the Department of Science and Humanities at the Chemistry Laboratory for 53 registered first-year EEE students. The program introduced participants to the fundamentals of the Internet of Things (IoT) through a beginner-friendly, hands-on session where they assembled a smart IoT clock capable of displaying real-time information such as news and weather. The workshop also included basic programming and electronics activities, enabling students to customize their devices and take home a fully functional IoT clock for further learning and experimentation.

26.11.2025 - Alumni Interaction Report

The Alumni Interaction—"Building Intelligent Agents: The Next Evolution of AI" was scheduled on November 26, 2025, at 11:15 PM in the EEE Seminar Hall. The Alumni Speaker, Ms. Sindhiya Selvaraj, a proud member of the 2009 batch, shared her insights on this cutting-edge topic. With 113 participants attended, this event promised to be an engaging and informative session.

15.11.2025 - Parents–Teacher Meeting Report

The Parents–Teacher Meeting for the Odd Semester First Year B.E./B.Tech. students was conducted on 15 November 2025 at Centenary centre. The meeting was organized following the completion of the CCET–1 examinations, with the primary objective of reviewing the academic performance of first-year students and discussing suitable measures for their improvement.

A total of 664 parents participated in the meeting, reflecting strong parental involvement and commitment towards academic progress of the students. The meeting mainly focused on students who had underperformed or failed in one or more subjects during the CCET–1 assessment.

During the interaction session, parents appreciated the faculty efforts and openly discussed their concerns regarding learning patterns, attendance, and preparation strategies of students. Many parents expressed the need for retests and special coaching classes to support academically weak students and help them recover their arrears at the earliest. Faculty members assured that special classes and focused remedial sessions would be arranged to strengthen the conceptual understanding of students.

A few parents whose children reside in long-distance locations requested the provision of online classes or hybrid support, especially during remedial sessions, to ensure continuous learning without travel difficulties. The committee agreed to explore feasible online support options wherever possible.

The meeting concluded with a collective understanding that consistent monitoring, additional practice, and active communication between faculty and parents can significantly improve student performance. The college sincerely thanks all the parents who attended and contributed to the academic development of the first-year students.

 

19.11.2025 - Hands on Training on Machine Learning

The workshop began at 9:30 AM at A424, Ms.G.Umamaheswari had conducted this Hans on training, and 30 IT Stream Students had participated. The aim of this program is to provide first-year students with a strong foundational understanding of Machine Learning concepts and equip them with hands-on Python skills to build simple ML models, preparing them for advanced studies and real-world applications in AI.

11.10.2025 - Alumni Interaction

Alumni Interaction event was organized on 11th October 2025 at the CS Hall. The guest of the session was Mr. Jeevanantham B, an alumnus of the CSE department (Batch 2004–2008), who is currently working as a Senior iOS Developer at Caresales, Melbourne, Australia.

16.10.2025 - Hands on training in Web Development

The Department of Science and Humanities organized a Hands-on Training in Web Development on 16th October 2025 at C127. The session was specially arranged for the first-year IT stream students to provide practical exposure to web development technologies

14.10.2025 - Two-day workshop on “Innovate Your Idea with DIY-KIT"

The Department of Science and Humanities organized a two-day workshop on “Innovate Your Idea with DIY-KIT” on 14th and 15th October 2025 at the Physics Laboratory. A total of 59 first-year ECE and VLSI students participated in the event, which aimed to enhance their creativity and practical skills through hands-on learning using DIY kits. The workshop provided valuable exposure to basic electronic components, circuit design, and innovative idea development.

11.10.2025 - Quick Math Workshop

The IGNITE Association organized a Quick Math Workshop on October 11, 2025, as part of its academic development initiatives. The workshop aimed to enhance students’ quick-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning skills through an engaging and interactive session led by experienced resource persons Dr. R. Ramesh, Dr. K. Vishalakshi, Ms. N. Punitha, Dr. K. Masaniammal and. Ms. K. Senbagapriya.

29.09.2025 - Inaguration

On Monday, September 29, 2025, the Department of Science and Humanities inaugurated its association, “IGNITE 2025,” with great enthusiasm at Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology. The event was graced by the presence of the distinguished Chief Guest, Mr. M. S. Ponnappa, Vice President – HR, TVS Motor Company Ltd.

 

26.08.2025 - Three Day Orientation Program Under NIA School Connect Initiative - Introduction to Data Science and AI

A three-day orientation program titled "Introduction to Data Science and AI" was conducted under the NIA School Connect Initiative on 26th August, 13th September, and 29th September 2025. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML) and the Department of Science and Humanities. The program aimed to introduce students to the foundational concepts of data science and artificial intelligence, fostering early interest and awareness in these transformative technologies. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, gaining insights into real-world applications and future opportunities in the field.

12.09.2025 - Workshop on Industrial Atomization Technologies 

A workshop on Industrial Atomization Technologies was conducted on 12th September 2025, organized by the Department of Science and Humanities at the Bosch Rexroth Centre. The session aimed to introduce participants to the latest advancements and applications of atomization technologies in industrial settings. A total of 25 first-year students from the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department actively participated in the workshop, gaining valuable insights and hands-on exposure to the subject.

28.06.2025 - Workshop on Empowering Educators

The Department of Science and Humanities, Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (Dr. MCET), conducted a one-day workshop titled "Empowering Educators – Speak English with Confidence" to strengthen the communicative competence of educators and equip them with confidence in using English as a medium of instruction, on 28th June 2025. The workshop aimed to develop fluency, improve classroom English, and enhance self-assurance among school teachers of NIA Schools through practical, activity-based learning.

04.04.2025 - Newspaper Doll Making Workshop

The Department of Science and Humanities, in association with the Yuvasakthi Welfare Association, organized an engaging Newspaper Doll Making Workshop on 04.04.2025. The session was led by Ms. A.J. Radhika, Founder of Queen Bee Paper Crafts and Creative Arts, Coimbatore. Students enthusiastically participated in the hands-on workshop, learning the art of crafting eco-friendly dolls using recycled newspapers. The event highlighted creativity, sustainability, and the importance of upcycling in art.

An Industrial Visit was organized for first-year students from February 21 to March 22, 2025, providing them with real-world exposure and helping them understand the practical side of their studies. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between academics and industry practices, encouraging curiosity, innovation, and career readiness. Students from CSE, EEE, AUTO, MECH, CSE (AI & ML), and CSE (Cyber Security) took part in this valuable learning experience.

26.08.2025 - Three Day Orientation Program Under NIA School Connect Initiative - Introduction to Data Science and AI

A three-day orientation program titled "Introduction to Data Science and AI" was conducted under the NIA School Connect Initiative on 26th August, 13th September, and 29th September 2025. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI&ML) and the Department of Science and Humanities. The program aimed to introduce students to the foundational concepts of data science and artificial intelligence, fostering early interest and awareness in these transformative technologies. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, gaining insights into real-world applications and future opportunities in the field.

12.09.2025 - Workshop on Industrial Atomization Technologies 

A workshop on Industrial Atomization Technologies was conducted on 12th September 2025, organized by the Department of Science and Humanities at the Bosch Rexroth Centre. The session aimed to introduce participants to the latest advancements and applications of atomization technologies in industrial settings. A total of 25 first-year students from the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department actively participated in the workshop, gaining valuable insights and hands-on exposure to the subject.

Domain Specific Paper Presentation Competition

The IGNITE Association organized Domain Specific Paper Presentation Competition.As a continuation of the Reverse Engineering Paper Presentation Competition. In the earlier competition, around 200 students were selected at the institutional level, while the remaining 80% of students participated at the department level. Only the department-level participants were eligible to take part in this Domain Specific Paper Presentation event.

Reverse Engineering Paper Presentation Competition

The IGNITE Association organized a Reverse Engineering Paper Presentation Competition, exclusively for first-year students, to enhance their analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and technical presentation skills. The event was conducted from 03.03.2026 to 05.03.2026. The program aimed to provide a platform for students to explore existing systems or technologies, analyze their working principles, and present their findings innovatively.

IGNITE Association Domain Specific Paper Presentation Competition

The IGNITE Association organised a Domain Specific Paper Presentation Competition as a continuation of the Reverse Engineering Paper Presentation Competition. In the earlier competition, around 200 students were selected at the institutional level, while the remaining 80% of students participated at the department level. National Science Day 2026

The Science Exhibition and Project Competition is organized to encourage students to explore scientific ideas, develop innovative projects, and apply their knowledge to solve real-world problems. The program provides a platform for students to showcase their creativity, research skills, and scientific thinking through models, experiments, and project presentations.

National Mathematics Day Quiz on 16.02.2026

The Department organized a National Mathematics Day Quiz on 16.02.2026 at the Mechanical Seminar Hall to encourage students to enhance their mathematical knowledge and analytical thinking skills. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 40 students from various institutions in and around Pollachi. The quiz aimed to promote interest in mathematics and highlight its importance in engineering and real-world problem solving. The program commenced with a brief introduction about National Mathematics Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and celebrates his remarkable contributions to the field of mathematics. The quiz competition consisted of multiple rounds covering topics such as basic mathematics, logical reasoning, numerical aptitude and general mathematical awareness. The participants actively engaged in the competition, demonstrating their knowledge and problem-solving abilities. The event was conducted in an interactive and competitive atmosphere, encouraging teamwork, quick thinking, and analytical skills among the participants. The winners were appreciated for their outstanding performance, and all participants were congratulated for their enthusiastic involvement. The National Mathematics Day Quiz was successfully organized and proved to be an enriching experience for the students, fostering a deeper appreciation for mathematics and its applications.

Poster Competition for Aspiring Women Innovators

The IGNITE Association organized a "Poster Competition for Aspiring Women Innovators" on February 13, 2026, to encourage female students to showcase their creativity and innovative ideas. The event featured three distinct streams: IT (Women in Computing and Digital Innovation), CORE (Women Leaders in Core Sciences and Engineering), and CIRCUIT (Women Powering Smart Technologies).

The IGNITE Association hosted a Tinkercad Guest Lecture led by experienced resource person Mr.R.Muthubharathi AP(SS)/EEE for Circuit Stream students. The session introduced 3D design, circuit simulation, and basic Arduino programming, focusing on practical skills through virtual prototyping on the Autodesk platform

Prompt Engineering Skills for Effective Academic Use of AI

The IGNITE Association organized a Guest lecture on "Prompt Engineering Skills for Effective Academic Use of AI" on February 4, 2026, as part of its academic development initiatives. Led by Dr. U. Barakkath Nisha, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the interactive session provided students with practical knowledge on using AI as a supportive learning tool.

27.01.2026 - workshop on Hands on session in DFT for Materials Simulations Using VASP

The workshop on “Hands-on Session in Density Functional Theory (DFT) for Materials Simulations Using VASP” provided a basic introduction to the VASP software and its application in calculating various properties of periodic systems. The workshop was conducted on 27 January 2026 at 10:00 AM in the SH Conference Hall. The session was handled by Dr. G. Saranya, Assistant Professor of Physics (Visiting Faculty), who served as the resource person and offered valuable insights into practical materials simulation techniques.

17.11.2025 - Workshop on Insights of Software in Civil Engineering

The Workshop on Insights of Software in Civil Engineering was held on 17-11-2025, organized by the Department of Science and Humanities at NPTC Hall No. 1 for 56 registered first-year Civil Engineering students. This one-day hands-on training program aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how digital technologies are transforming civil engineering by enhancing accuracy, efficiency, and visualization in design, analysis, surveying, and project planning. The session bridged theoretical concepts with practical applications, helping students understand how software tools support real-world engineering decisions. Overall, the workshop motivated students to embrace technology as an essential component of their civil engineering education and future professional careers.

13.11.2025 & 15.11.2025 - Workshop on Build Your IOT Clock

The Workshop on Build Your IoT Clock was conducted on 13-11-2025 and 15-11-2025, organized by the Department of Science and Humanities at the Chemistry Laboratory for 53 registered first-year EEE students. The program introduced participants to the fundamentals of the Internet of Things (IoT) through a beginner-friendly, hands-on session where they assembled a smart IoT clock capable of displaying real-time information such as news and weather. The workshop also included basic programming and electronics activities, enabling students to customize their devices and take home a fully functional IoT clock for further learning and experimentation.

26.11.2025 - Alumni Interaction Report

The Alumni Interaction—"Building Intelligent Agents: The Next Evolution of AI" was scheduled on November 26, 2025, at 11:15 PM in the EEE Seminar Hall. The Alumni Speaker, Ms. Sindhiya Selvaraj, a proud member of the 2009 batch, shared her insights on this cutting-edge topic. With 113 participants attended, this event promised to be an engaging and informative session.

15.11.2025 - Parents–Teacher Meeting Report

The Parents–Teacher Meeting for the Odd Semester First Year B.E./B.Tech. students was conducted on 15 November 2025 at Centenary centre. The meeting was organized following the completion of the CCET–1 examinations, with the primary objective of reviewing the academic performance of first-year students and discussing suitable measures for their improvement.

A total of 664 parents participated in the meeting, reflecting strong parental involvement and commitment towards academic progress of the students. The meeting mainly focused on students who had underperformed or failed in one or more subjects during the CCET–1 assessment.

During the interaction session, parents appreciated the faculty efforts and openly discussed their concerns regarding learning patterns, attendance, and preparation strategies of students. Many parents expressed the need for retests and special coaching classes to support academically weak students and help them recover their arrears at the earliest. Faculty members assured that special classes and focused remedial sessions would be arranged to strengthen the conceptual understanding of students.

A few parents whose children reside in long-distance locations requested the provision of online classes or hybrid support, especially during remedial sessions, to ensure continuous learning without travel difficulties. The committee agreed to explore feasible online support options wherever possible.

The meeting concluded with a collective understanding that consistent monitoring, additional practice, and active communication between faculty and parents can significantly improve student performance. The college sincerely thanks all the parents who attended and contributed to the academic development of the first-year students.

 

19.11.2025 - Hands on Training on Machine Learning

The workshop began at 9:30 AM at A424, Ms.G.Umamaheswari had conducted this Hans on training, and 30 IT Stream Students had participated. The aim of this program is to provide first-year students with a strong foundational understanding of Machine Learning concepts and equip them with hands-on Python skills to build simple ML models, preparing them for advanced studies and real-world applications in AI.

Alumni Interaction event was organized on 11th October 2025 at the CS Hall. The guest of the session was Mr. Jeevanantham B, an alumnus of the CSE department (Batch 2004–2008), who is currently working as a Senior iOS Developer at Caresales, Melbourne, Australia.

The Department of Science and Humanities organized a two-day workshop on “Innovate Your Idea with DIY-KIT” on 14th and 15th October 2025 at the Physics Laboratory. A total of 59 first-year ECE and VLSI students participated in the event, which aimed to enhance their creativity and practical skills through hands-on learning using DIY kits. The workshop provided valuable exposure to basic electronic components, circuit design, and innovative idea development.
