CIVILIAN SERVICE
NCC
National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) was established in the year of 2003 and attached with 4(Tamilnadu) Battalion NCC, Coimbatore Group. In the year 2020, MCET was sanctioned an Air Wing NCC attached with 2(Tamilnadu) Air Squadron NCC, Coimbatore Group.
The main objective of NCC is to create motivated, trained and self-disciplined youth for selfless service to the nation. NCC provides creates a good platform for young minds to excel in all walks of life. MCET –NCC unit conducts institutional and camping activities for the cadets along with social service activities. Institutional training consists of topics related to military history, leadership traits, health and hygiene, environmental protection, information about different weapons and etc., The social service activities include rallies, SwachhBharathAbhiyan – Cleanliness drive, Tree plantation, blood donation camps, events during national day of importance like Republic Day. Independence Day, Constitution Day and etc., MCET-NCC unit motivates young NCC cadets to join in Indian tri services. MCET-NCC unit sent many NCC cadets to nation service as officers in tri services and civil servants.
NSS
MCET NSS established in the year 1999 and now it has two funded units and one SF units. Totally more than 250 volunteers enrolled every year in NSS. NSS nurtures the awareness on various sectors among the villagers of nearby villages during special camp events. The camp is scheduled every year with one week duration and the events are listed below. The beneficiaries are the village youth, unemployed women, farmers and students of Government schools. The events are planned and executed by the NSS volunteers of MCET and it reflects the current issues of the society. Our NSS volunteers donated blood to various hospitals around Pollachi and Coimbatore during emergency situations. Also conducted Blood Donation camp at MCET collaborate with Pollachi blood bank and Kanjampatti Government Hospital. NSS conducted various clean India 2.0 camp in Aliyar and various places adopted villages and created cleaning awareness to peoples around villages. NSS conducted many regular activities inside and outside the campus.
NSS camp was held at somanthurai chithur from 20.3.23 to 26.3.23.

CCC
The Citizen Consumer Club of Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi has taken an initiative to enhance awareness amongst the student community about the rights and responsibilities of a consumer. Citizen Consumer Club has been working with great enthusiasm and commitment. The CC Club has been collaborating with Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department (Govt. of Tamil Nadu), FEDCOT and other such private organizations to create awareness on consumer rights and adulteration issues. Students actively participate in competitions.
The objective of the club is to educate and motivate the Consumer Club Members about the rights and responsibilities of consumers and to make the members inculcate the valuable inputs which they gained among the general public; to join hands with other voluntary consumer organizations and with other consumer clubs to enhance consumer movement; and to collaborate, cooperate, actively participate and function in accordance with the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Government of Tamil Nadu.

- To make possible students to be aware of fundamental rights and duties of a consumer.
- To communicate information about product standards, quality and about markets.
- To extend a sense of methods of abuse and adulteration.
- To gain knowledge about laws enacted for protection, welfare of consumers and concerned enforcement authorities.
ACTIVITIES OF THE CLUB:
In order to achieve the above said objectives, Consumer Clubs have to be activated through some structured activities. Active Consumer Clubs may go beyond this and also take up innovative activities. Club office bearers meetings are happening twice in a month and the minutes are recorded. Minutes of each activity have to be recorded by the Student and Teacher Coordinator jointly to document. The club organizes programmes like orientation, workshops, field visits, awareness meeting, quizzes and fresher’s meet for first year students.

YRC AND RRC
The Youth Red Cross (YRC) at Dr.Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi (Autonomous) is one of the paths available to students under the Personality and Character Development Programme, along with NCC and NSS. YRC is a non-partisan international humanitarian organisation dedicated to serving humanity.A law passed by the Indian government in 1920 created the Red Cross Association in India, with the three goals of enhancing health, preventing sickness, and lessening suffering.
OBJECTIVES OF YRC
- To organise emergency relief services and to prepare the students for managing crises and disasters.
- To conduct social and health awareness programmes.
- Awareness on the care of their own health and that of others.
- To encourage the students to extend their humanitarian services to the society.
- To offer First Aid Training to all the YRC volunteers.
- To develop leadership quality among the students.
- The understanding and acceptance of civic responsibilities and acting accordingly with humanitarian concern, to fulfil the same.
- To recruit, train and develop volunteers/personnel as necessary for undertaking humanitarian responsibilities.

RED RIBBON CLUB

- To prepare youth as peer educators/agents of change both among youth as well as society at large by developing their skills on leadership, advocacy, communication and team building.
- To provide platforms for students to contribute in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
- To promote voluntary blood donation among youth.
- To counsel the students regarding the various preventives for their proper health.

A blood donation camp was organized by Mr. S. Nagarajan, Project officer, NIA Educational Institutions, Dr. J. Johnson William, YRC/RRC Programme Officer, MCET in collaboration with Government hospital, Pollachi, PHC Kanjampatti and IMA, Pollachi on 07.02.2023 at Centenary Centre. Dr. P. Govindasamy, Principal, MCET and Mr. R. Manivannan, Principal, NPTC inaugurated the camp. Totally 125 students donated blood.
A disaster management program was organized by Dr. J. Johnson William, YRC/RRC Programme Officer, MCET in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, Chengalpattu on 23.09.2022 at Mechanical seminar hall, MCET. Dr. R. Ramesh, NSS Programme officer, MCET inaugurated the function. Professor R. Manickam, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Chengalpattu demonstrates the first aid to be carried out at the time of incident.Totally 100students were participated.

ENVIRONMENL CLUB
Environmental club started for instilling environmental responsibility among students, following the interest and inspirations acquired from the International Conference on Renewable Energy and Sustainable Environment held in our college. The main aim of the Environmental club is to develop green consciousness and promote awareness and social responsibility among students. The mission of Environmental club is “To Raise the awareness of sustainability, address Environmental Issues, Promote Team Work within Our Community and to reduce some environmental pollutants within our locality”.
The objectives are: Create awareness about the environment· Initiate and involve in activities to improve the sustainability of the local· and campus environment Encourage students to undertake environmental projects· To conduct seminars and lectures on environmental awareness.· To promote volunteerism among the student groups.· To enhance learning the Environmental Facts among the student· communities. To conduct indoor and outdoor Environmental Activities among the student· groups. To promote tree plantation Inside MCET among the students.
Office bearers and club members will meet once in 15 days and discuss about the various environmental issues, awareness techniques and interesting events with promotion of environmental awareness.
Environmental Club of MCET has conducted “Tree plantation” in MCET campus with 50 participants from environmental club members and student representatives.
Environmental club organized the Guest Lecture on “Organic forming”. Mr.K.Selvakumar, Modern Agriculturalist was the resource person. He elaborated the modern technologies which can be easily adaptable by the farmers for enhancing the agriculture production like use of quality seed, irrigation technologies, and fertilizer management.
In view of Arutchelvar Ayya’s 100th year birthday celebrations and World Forestry Day (21.03.23), World water day(22.03.23) World Meteorology Day(23.03.23), the environmental club has organized Tree plantation program on 23.03.23 at Government Higher Secondary School, Somandurai Sithur.
GENDER CHAMPION CLUB
Gender Champion club has been established in the year 2015 as per the guidelines provided by UGC in line with the directive of Ministry of Women and Child Development’s Guidelines for engagement of Gender Champions by schools and colleges across the country.
Functions:
The club operates to provide an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to understand the social and cultural constructions of gender that shape the experiences of women and men in the society and to make the young boys and girls gender sensitive to enable creating positive social norms that value girls and their rights.
